Sesi Technologies has been adjudged one of the two winners of the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize out of 12 finalists who pitched their projects at the just-ended Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF 2019) held at the Accra International Conference Center.
The GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize, powered by Econet Global and Yara International and implemented by Generation Africa seeks to uplift innovative entrepreneurial ventures in the agri-food sector founded by young people across Africa. The competition awards one male and one female winner a cash prize of $50,000 USD prize based on the innovation, originality, scalability and environmental sustainability of their business venture.
Sesi Technologies, represented by our co-founder, Isaac Sesi, was awarded $50,000 for our work on GrainMate and FarmSense. GrainMate is an affordable and effective grain moisture meter which helps you accurately measure the moisture content in your grains before storage, helping you reduce aflatoxin contamination and ensuring better quality grains for storage, sale, feed preparation or consumption. FarmSense, when launched will provide personalized recommendations to farmers on what inputs to apply to their soils to maximize yield.
Bonolo Monthe, from Botswana, was the female winner, who won the prize for her startup, Maungo Craft. Maungo craft is uses underused indigenous fruits and turns them into low-to-no-sugar preserves.
The Prize was presented by Mr Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and Chairman of Econet Global and Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO of Yara , in the presence of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the former Vice President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo and several other important people who gathered at the celebratory gala dinner to witness the presentation of the awards.
Speaking to the press after receiving the award, Isaac Sesi thanked everyone who made the win possible and encouraged many young people to venture into agriculture as there were many problems along the value chain waiting to be solved. He stressed that the youth were the future of Agriculture in Africa and should not look down on the field.
Eleven other agripreneurs from nine other countries made it to the finals as well, selected from a large pool of applicants in a highly competitive application process that received over 3000 applications from across the continent.
