In 2017, Feed the Future Innovation Lab for the Reduction of Post-Harvest Loss at Kansas State University partnered with Sesi Technologies to adopt and scale an effective solution to farmers and people across the value chain to manage postharvest losses. The result of this partnership is the GrainMate Grain Moisture Meter, first developed by Paul Armstrong of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a researcher at the Feed the Future Innovation Lab. From 2017 till now, we have produced three different GrainMate Grain Moisture Meters. First, the GM-101, followed by the GM-102 and now GM-103.
WHY THE GM 103
The GrainMate GM-103 Grain Moisture Meter was developed after identifying the many ways the GM-102 can be improved. This was done with the help of customer feedback. As a company focused on improving the lives of smallholder farmers, and agribusiness owners, it is imperative to listen to their feedback and improve our products. Hence, the GM-103 as an upgrade, represents our desire to learn and always look for ways to improve.

While the GM-103 does not compromise on quality and delivering it’s purpose, it comes with a couple of new features. These new features are;
- Keypads: While the GrainMate GM-102 had buttons, GM-103 comes with keypads. This change is necessary due to the buttons getting broken as a result of frequent use or simply falling off. With the keypads, users are assured of an increased durability.
- Specialized Keypads: In addressing the challenge of broken buttons, we realized it was as a result of needing to press only one button for multiple functionalities. To address this challenge we introduce more keypads with specialised functions. This means, users can easily identify each keypad and it’s functionality.
